Most of the trails and roads that lead into Forest Service land traverse non-public properties. These entry factors have been used for many years however “No Trespassing” indicators are popping up with rising frequency. By controlling the entry factors to those public lands, landowners are turning tens of 1000’s of acres of federal land into extensions of their ranches.
The battle over preserving public land in the course of the Trump period is taking an odd, offended twist in Montana’s Loopy Mountains. Either side are armed.
