It’s with nice curiosity that we learn in regards to the long-term decline within the biomass of flying bugs on German protected areas (Scientists inform of alarm at big fall in flying bugs, 19 October).

The Recreation & Wildlife Conservation Belief (GWCT) carries out two long-term surveys of bugs on farmland in England – the Sussex Research (1970 to current) and at our demonstration farm in Loddington (1992 to current).
